"Sir James Paul McCartney, geboren op 18 juni 1942 in Liverpool is een Britse popmuzikant en componist. Hij werd in de jaren '60 bekend als muzikant uit The Beatles waarin hij (co-)leadzanger, bassist en songwriter is. Samen met John Lennon begint McCartney wat nummers te schrijven, scoort een duizelingwekkende lijst van nummer 1-hits en zet meer dan de halve wereld op zijn kop en heft de band weer op in 1970. Nadat de Beatles uiteen waren gegaan wilde McCartney in eerste instantie solo gaan, maar formeert in 1971 de groep Wings. Later komt die solo-periode er alsnog, waarmee Sir Paul tot op de dag van vandaag veel successen boekt.
Mull of Kintyre is een nummer uit 1977, geschreven door McCartney en Denny Laine, zijn bandmaatje in Wings. Het nummer is een ode aan het eiland Mull of Kintyre in Schotland waar Paul en zijn vrouw Linda een boerderij hebben.
Op 11 november 1977 werd het nummer op single uitgebracht en was Wings' grootste hit in thuisland het Verenigd Koninkrijk, waar hij met kerst 1977 de populairste kerstplaat werd in de UK Singles Chart. Het was ook de eerste single waarvan in het VK meer dan twee miljoen exemplaren werden verkocht en in Europa en Oceanië werd de plaat een gigantische hit.
Paul’s ode aan de Mull of Kintyre, een schiereiland dat aan de punt van het Schotse Kintyre ligt en waar hij woonde, is met afstand het bekendste nummer van de band.
